This scroll is a reproduction of Yan Liben's classic masterpiece, "Emperor Taizong Receiving the Tibetan Envoy." The silk has aged to a mellow, antique hue, and the reproduction faithfully restores the brushwork and artistic spirit of the original Tang dynasty piece, fully depicting the historic event of Princess Wencheng's marriage alliance in the fifteenth year of the Zhenguan era and the Tibetan envoy Lu Dongzan paying tribute to Emperor Taizong.

The scroll is divided into distinct sections. On the right, Emperor Taizong sits upright in his imperial carriage, surrounded by palace maidens holding fans and umbrellas. Their flowing robes and red patterns convey lively elegance, while the emperor's demeanor is dignified and composed. On the left, Lu Dongzan wears exotic brocade robes, presenting a respectful and sincere appearance. A red-clad official holds a brush to convey an imperial summons. The characters are meticulously detailed, with iron-line outlines that are firm and fluid, and coloring that is delicate and warm, demonstrating the pinnacle of early Tang figure painting.

The beginning of the scroll features an inscription in seal script, with Zhang Boyi's calligraphy documenting the event from start to finish. At the left end of the scroll is a lengthy cursive inscription in seal script by Zhang Boyi of the Northern Song Dynasty, serving as the textual key to interpreting *The Procession on Foot*. The entire passage features small seal script with evenly smooth and elongated strokes, flowing and round, each character dignified and ancient. It meticulously records the complete chronology of the Tibetan envoy's marriage proposal in the fifteenth year of the Zhenguan era and Emperor Taizong's audience with Lu Dongzan, aligning perfectly with the pictorial content to achieve "textual interpretation of the painting and historical validation through the painting.".

The ancient scroll features a staggered arrangement of red seals from various dynasties, with seals of different sizes layered in tiers. The vermilion hues are warm and rich, including imperial seals from the Song Dynasty, literati seals from the Yuan and Ming periods, and court seals from the Qing Dynasty.
