English Translation

Sichuan Copper Coin with cross reading inside the bead circle, featuring a hibiscus flower at the center (the symbolic flower of Chengdu, also known as Hibiscus City).

Above the bead circle: Made by the Military Government

Below the bead circle: Value One Hundred Standard Cash Coins

Reverse side (the Chinese character side, commonly called the "Great Han Copper Coin"):

The outer ring is encircled by eighteen small circles, symbolizing the eighteen provinces nationwide that rose up in the 1911 Revolution and supported the Republic of China.

Inside the central large circle lies the seal script character Han, embodying the revolutionary slogan "Expel the Tartars and Restore China".

The year inscription at the top reads: Second Year of the Republic of China.

This coin is also a rotated die error coin, with obverse and reverse designs misaligned rotationally.

Small floral stars decorate the left and right sides.

The Sichuan Railway Protection Movement broke out in 1911. The Great Han Sichuan Military Government took over the Chengdu Mint and issued the series of Sichuan Copper Coins to raise massive military funds and replace the dragon-patterned copper coins of the Qing Dynasty.

Original minting purpose: To cope with wartime inflation and pay military salaries. Mass production triggered severe currency devaluation in later years, making high-denomination specimens extremely scarce today.

Circulation scope: Circulated widely across Sichuan Province, with a small quantity flowing into Yunnan, Guizhou and Gansu. It is a landmark military currency of the warlord separatist era in southwest China in the early Republic of China.

It completely superseded Qing dragon copper coins. The "Han" character coin pioneered the local republican currency system of the early Republic of China. Its unique design combining hibiscus flower and eighteen provincial ring motifs makes it an independent and highly sought-after category among copper coin collectors.
