In the history of Chinese ceramics, high-temperature blue-glazed porcelain of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, represented by "jilan glaze", is as deep and quiet as gemstones, known as "gemstone blue". This jilan-glazed waste receptacle takes "jilan glaze" as its glaze color and the waste receptacle as its shape, integrating blue glaze, vessel shape and court craftsmanship. It blends the dignified atmosphere of the Ming court, ritual symbolism and the level of porcelain making skills. Between the flowing porcelain glaze, it conveys the court porcelain culture logic of "taking porcelain as a vessel, conveying ritual with colors, and carrying charm with glaze". It is not only a typical embodiment of Wanli jilan-glazed porcelain, but also a precious relic of late Ming Dynasty imperial kiln porcelain art.

From the perspective of form and glaze color, this work fully demonstrates the characteristics of "Wanli jilan-glazed charm and court dignity". The waste receptacle adopts a classic shape with a flared mouth, constricted neck, bulging belly and ring foot, with round and regular lines, delicate and firm胎质, showing the beauty of the胎质 and glaze of Wanli porcelain. The entire body of the vessel is covered with jilan glaze, which is deep and rich in color, showing a gem-like indigo color. The glaze surface is bright and glossy with a strong glass texture. The glaze layer is thick and uniform with natural flowing feeling, and the glaze color is pure and free of impurities, fully showing the characteristics of jilan glaze "blue as gemstones, quiet as the deep sea". The inside of the vessel is covered with white glaze, which is even and bright, forming a strong contrast with the jilan glaze on the outside. The bottom of the vessel is inscribed with the six-character double-circle regular script "Made in the Wanli Year of the Great Ming Dynasty", with neat calligraphy and rigorous layout, which is a typical mark of Wanli imperial kiln porcelain. The overall glaze color is pure and uniform, blue as gemstones, solemn and dignified, fully showing the court atmosphere of "prosperous blue glaze, ritual majesty". Every flowing glaze color and every luster of the glaze surface condense the ingenuity of Wanli imperial kiln craftsmen, becoming a core material link for analyzing the firing techniques of high-temperature blue-glazed porcelain in the Ming Dynasty.

In terms of craftsmanship and cultural connotation, Wanli Jilan-glazed Waste Receptacle embodies the creative pursuit of "blue-glazed porcelain art as the bone and court ritual system as the soul". Jilan-glazed porcelain of the Ming Dynasty is fired with high-temperature cobalt blue glaze, which is extremely difficult in craftsmanship and requires extremely strict control of kiln temperature and atmosphere, resulting in a very low yield. Therefore, jilan-glazed porcelain has been exclusive court porcelain since ancient times, symbolizing the dignity of imperial power and the majesty of ritual system. In this work, the firing process of blue glaze is fully displayed, with even shades of glaze color and natural flow, perfectly showing the characteristics of jilan glaze "deep glaze color, glossy glaze surface", reflecting the superb porcelain making skills of Wanli imperial kiln craftsmen. As a traditional porcelain form, the waste receptacle has been used in the court since the Tang and Song dynasties, with both storage and ritual functions. It is often used to hold residues in court banquets and is a carrier of ritual culture. Blue, as the ritual color of the court, represents solemnity, dignity and authority. The jilan-glazed waste receptacle combines the two, conveying the good wish of "orderly ritual system, stable imperial power". What is particularly exquisite is that the blue glaze on the vessel body is as bright as gemstones, complementing the dignified and elegant shape of the vessel, reflecting the porcelain making concept of "regular shape and pure glaze color" of Wanli imperial kiln porcelain. Created in the Wanli period, when the porcelain making technology of the late Ming Dynasty was at its peak, jilan-glazed porcelain, as exclusive court porcelain, was not only a symbol of imperial power, but also showed the level of Ming Dynasty porcelain making technology. Every high-temperature firing and every flowing glaze color silently tell the exquisite craftsmanship of Ming Dynasty imperial kiln porcelain making and the connotation of court ritual culture, making this work have both the craft beauty of porcelain art and the symbolic beauty of court ritual system.
